The study of language, history, and the cultural heritage of society
helps to develop an appreciation and understanding of others. In
addition, the study of foreign literature deepens the aesthetic values
of students and enhances the level of their own cultural development.
The Darul Arqam Southeast Arabic language study is an Arabic program that is optimized
for non-Arabic speakers. The emphasis is on Quranic Arabic,
conversational Arabic and Arabic literature. PreK-Kindergarten Arabic Curriculum Objective: The main goals of teaching Arabic at the Pre-K and Kindergarten levels are to:
- generate love and respect for the Arabic language in the hearts and minds of the students
- help
students achieve the tools they need to read the Quran, Ahadith, and
other Islamic Literature in Arabic with a general understanding
Skills
- insure that preschool students learn the shapes and sounds of the Arabic alphabet as well as the Arabic numbers from 1-20.
- reinforce
concepts from the textbook by having students take part in activities
and exercises such as writing, training, coloring, etc.
- recognize
and use everyday words such as chair, desk, teacher, etc. At home,
students can use words for family members, room, bed, etc.
- insure
that kindergarten students are able to read and write the Arabic
alphabet by introducing them to short vowels (fatha, kasra,dhumma,
& sukoon)
Simple words and pictures that make up a story will help the child to read and write three-letter words in a short period. Arabic songs and nasheeds will be incorporated through teaching in order to create a loving atmosphere. The
majority of class time will be spoken in Arabic, eliminating any
English from the classroom in order to convey meanings of words.
Pictures, objects, and actions will be used for this purpose. Middle School Arabic Curriculum Objective: The main goals of teaching Arabic in the Middle School are to: - enhance the student's skill in understanding spoken Arabic
- enhance the student's skill in Arabic oral communication
- enhance the student's ability to read and comprehend a multitude of Arabic texts
- enhance the student's aptitude to write in Arabic
Skills: After completing this curriculum, the students should be able to: - comprehend and grasp the concepts in Arabic discussion, conversations, and directions
- share personal events and experiences with their teachers and classmates in Arabic
- contribute to class discussions in Arabic and converse in specified roles with other students
- read a variety of Arabic texts and demonstrate fluency while reading
- correctly spell difficult words
- understand and apply basic grammar concepts
- answer given questions in Arabic over texts presented in class
Assessment: Throughout this curriculum, the student will be evaluated through: - oral presentations
- reading comprehension tests
- grammar tests
- spelling tests
- individual and/or group projects
